Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture Presented the Nu3Med Project at the Sustainability Festival in Dubrovnik

Teaching staff of the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture, University of Split, Prof. Tatjana Klepo, PhD, and lecturer Ivan Tavra participated in the Sustainability Festival held in Dubrovnik and organized by the University of Dubrovnik.

As part of the festival programme, they presented the Nu3Med project and conducted an educational workshop for students from three classes of the Dubrovnik Private High School. Through practical examples, the students were introduced to some of the modern equipment and technologies used in the implementation of project activities.

A scanner used for morphometric analysis of fruits, leaves, and other plant parts was presented, enabling precise determination of their dimensions and other morphological characteristics. The students were also shown a smart camera for magnifying plant samples, which works on a principle similar to a microscope and allows detailed images to be displayed on a large screen. This makes it easier to observe features that are not visible to the naked eye, such as symptoms of infection, damage, or specific parts of fruits and plants.

A digital trap was also presented as a modern tool for remote monitoring of pest population dynamics. This enables timely monitoring of pest occurrence and abundance and contributes to a more precise approach to plant protection.

The drone attracted particular interest among the students. Within the project, it is used to locate plant species of interest and collect data in the research areas.

Through the workshop, the students had the opportunity to learn how modern digital technologies, plant research, and pest monitoring can be integrated with sustainable agriculture and scientific research.

Participation in the Sustainability Festival also provided an opportunity to present the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture, University of Split, its study programmes, teaching and research activities, and the opportunities it offers to prospective students.

In this way, Prof. Tatjana Klepo, PhD, and lecturer Ivan Tavra not only presented the activities of the Nu3Med project but also introduced the students to the work of the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture and demonstrated how science, modern technologies, and sustainable agriculture are connected through teaching and research.
