Field and Laboratory Activities in Cornelian Cherry Research within the NU3MED Project

Within the institutional project NU3MED, field and laboratory activities related to the study of cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) were conducted in mid-March 2026, involving members of work packages WP1 and WP2 together with students of the Agromediterranean Faculty.

As part of Work Package WP1 - Eco-geographical survey and sample collection, samples of inflorescences and flowers of cornelian cherry were collected from a total of eight locations, providing a representative basis for further research.

Following the fieldwork, within Work Package WP2 - Description and evaluation of selected plant species, the collected samples were processed in the laboratories of the Agromediterranean Faculty and morphologically analysed according to standardized protocols. The aim of these analyses was to determine the variability of the studied plant material and to establish a foundation for further scientific and professional activities within the project.

These activities highlight the importance of integrating field and laboratory work, as well as the active involvement of students in research processes, thereby contributing to the development of scientific excellence and practical competencies.
