First Erasmus+ Visiting Lecturer at Mediterranean Agriculture and Agronomy of the Mediterranean

Prof. Julián Cuevas González, PhD, from the University of Almería (Spain), an internationally recognized expert in agronomy and biotechnology with a strong focus on improving agricultural practices, became the first Erasmus+ visiting lecturer to visit our study programs in the new premises at Zrinsko Frankopanska 38 (Studentuša), Split, on February 25, 2025.

Prof. Cuevas delivered a lecture to students and faculty on the topic: “Avocado and Loquat - Potential for Cultivation in Dalmatia.” In his presentation, he first introduced the geographical and climatic characteristics of his region, highlighting the most developed branches of agricultural production. He then provided an overview of the activities of the University of Almería and presented Erasmus+ opportunities available to both students and teaching staff.

This event marks an important milestone for our study programs, strengthening international collaboration and opening new perspectives for the integration of Mediterranean agricultural practices into a broader European and global context.

Regarding the lecture itself, which sparked great interest among students and faculty, Prof. Julián Cuevas González presented, in a very inspiring and often humorous way, the possibilities and limitations of cultivating avocado (Persea americana Mill.) and loquat (Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.) Lindl.) in Dalmatia.

During his stay, Prof. Cuevas had the opportunity to become acquainted with our University and visited the University Campus, the experimental field in Glavice, as well as the surroundings of Split, Sinj, Vrlika, Trogir, and Drniš.

We would like to thank Prof. Julián Cuevas González for his visit and we look forward to future collaboration.
