Science and Technology in the Service of Agriculture: Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture at the European Researchers’ Night

The Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture, University of Split, participated in the European Researchers’ Night on 25 September 2026, held at the University of Split Campus and along Ruđera Boškovića Street.

Once again, the event brought together numerous researchers, students, and citizens with the aim of bringing science closer to the general public. Through a wide range of interactive activities, visitors had the opportunity to explore different areas of scientific and research work. This year’s programme included more than 350 participants involved in 70 different activities.

At its stand, the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture presented part of its scientific and research activities, with particular emphasis on the Nu3Med project - “Valorisation of Nutritional and Bioactive Components of Mediterranean Plant Species” - and on the application of modern digital technologies in agriculture. The activity was led by Assistant Professor Pavao Gančević, PhD.

Visitors were introduced to the ways in which digitalisation, modern research equipment, and new technologies can be applied in agricultural production and scientific research.

Particular emphasis was placed on technologies such as digital monitoring of plants and pests, analysis of plant samples, the use of drones, and other digital tools that enable more precise data collection and processing.

Through the Nu3Med project, researchers from the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture, in cooperation with other experts from the University of Split, are studying the nutritional and bioactive components of Mediterranean plant species and the possibilities for their further valorisation. The project brings together experts in agronomy, food science, and economics, providing an interdisciplinary approach to the research.

Participation in the European Researchers’ Night provided an opportunity to bring the scientific and research work of the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture closer to citizens, children, and young people, while also demonstrating how modern science and technology can be linked to the challenges of the agriculture of the future.

Through activities such as these, the Faculty of Mediterranean Agriculture continues to connect science, education, and practice, demonstrating how digital technologies and modern research can contribute to the development of sustainable and competitive agriculture, particularly in the Mediterranean region.
